Most people working in the drug addiction rehabilitation field will agree that long term drug rehab is preferable to short term rehab. It has been proven more effective over and over yet the cost is beyond the reach of many of the people who need long term rehabilitation. Insurance companies simply will not pay for a person to stay at a facility for months on end while they learn how to cope with life without drugs.

A drug rehab center may try to compensate for this fact by offering follow up care as part of their program. This follow up treatment may consist of group support meetings either in a 12 step model or one of the new non 12 step rehab models. Either way, follow up care is essential to a recovering addict as they go back to their normal, everyday life away from the sheltered atmosphere of the drug rehab center. Temptations appear as soon as a recovered drug addict leaves the facility, no matter where they go.

If you are in need of long term drug rehab, please make every effort to obtain treatment for as long as possible, both inpatient and follow up care. We all have work and family commitments that make this difficult but your job and your family need you free from drug addiction more than they need your continued presence in their lives while addicted.
